about

From the sounds of a meadow grasshopper to a love song to the Large Hadron Collider, this album is a collection of modular recordings from the past 7 years or so. “Modular Studies Vol. 1” is being released this year, 2019, as a free download in celebration of my 40th anniversary of making electronic music.
Much of the music is appropriately primitive, “one take” single tracks simply transferred from digital tape as it was recorded, some were built up from multitracks and extensively edited. Detailed descriptions are shown against the individual tracks.
The album is also a celebration of all the designers and builders of modular synthesisers, from the electronic dark ages to today. In particular I’d like to thank Grant Richter and Cary Grace for the Wiard 300 series, John Blacet for Blacet Research and Robin Wood for the EMS VCS3.
